This 2 day guided walk is great for those of you who like the wilderness and prefer not to see too many people.
Your first morning starts at our base. Here you will meet your guide who will look after you for the next two days. You will prepare for your trip with a briefing and then we will drop you off at your water taxi.
You will water taxi up to the start point of the Nydia Track, which is around 2 hours from Havelock. From the comfort of the water taxi you will get a chance to see the Pelorus Sound and hopefully some of the famous marine mammals that frequent this spectacular area.
On arrival at Duncan Bay, you will begin your walk along the coastline through lush coastal forest. You will find giant Rimu, Nikau and beech forest that has been untouched for centuries.
Lunch will be a nice kiwi-style picnic along this coastline before the climb of the day up to Nydia Saddle (347m). The views of Tennyson Inlet from here are magnificent and well worth the climb. You will then drop down into Nydia Bay, meandering through regenerating native bush to your accommodation for the evening at ‘On The Track Lodge’. When you get there, it is time to sit back and relax with a cold drink and nibbles whilst looking out to the sunset and tranquil waters of Nydia Bay. Your guide will prepare dinner, giving you time to enjoy all the treats the lodge has to offer.
Hot Pool anyone?
Day two has a relaxing start with a filling continental breakfast, giving you the energy to get to the finish line. Your walk this morning starts off through farmland, showing you another way of life for the locals. Entering the bush you will walk up to Kaiuma Saddle (387m) with stunning views of Marlborough’s highest peak, Mt Tapuae-O-Uenuku. Having a real sense of being in the middle of nowhere is something to savour.
From the saddle you will descend down to Kaiuma Bay, where you will meet your last water taxi for a short ride back to Havelock.
