Day 1
This trip is perfect for Beginners through to Advanced riders who want a 2 day ride. With a road option available on both days, you can pick and choose the sections you ride.
The morning starts with a water taxi ride out to Camp Bay via Ship Cove on a scenic cruise. When you get out at Camp Bay your first part of the ride is up to the Kenepuru Saddle where you can choose the track or a scenic road ride. The road ride takes about 2 hours. The track ride follows the ridge line up to the Bay of Many Coves shelter offering spectacular views across Cook Strait and the Outer Sounds. A point of interest not to miss is the Eatwells Lookout – this is a challenging 20 minute return track.
Along the ridge top you will be able to see across to Picton and to the rural farms of the Kenepuru. There are some beautiful flowing sections of track along to Black Rock Shelter. From here the track descends down to Torea Saddle and Portage Bay where you spend the night. You can choose between campsite, backpackers or a Hotel.
Day 2
Again, today you have a choice of a road ride or a track ride. There is also an option of a mix today – road followed by track. The track ride starts with a challenging climb. From the top there are beautiful views back towards the North where you rode yesterday and you follow this to the Te Mahia Saddle.
This section of track is challenging in places so if this is not for you then take the road to Te Mahia Saddle and join the track there. The track from Te Mahia Saddle is an easy gradient with a fairly smooth surface all the way to Anakiwa.
