This trip is designed for those of you who want to sign off a multi-day walk with a few added luxuries. Each day finishes with dinner while looking out over stunning views, followed by a soft bed to rest the weary legs. Throughout your trip you will be accompanied by one of our highly trained and qualified guides to help you achieve your goal of completing the Queen Charlotte Track.
Day 1: Walk Ship Cove to Furneaux Lodge 17.5km
Your adventure starts with a beautiful water taxi ride from Picton out to Ship Cove.
From Ship Cove, the track now follows a much gentler gradient up to a saddle with spectacular views across to Motuara Island and Resolution Bay. The descent now takes you a much easier route down to School House Bay campsite before following an old bridle path up to Tawa Saddle, which offers views across Endeavour Inlet. The track then drops down to the beach and winds its way through the bush to Furneaux Lodge, your humble abode for the night.
Day 2: Today is a fairly easy and relaxed day with some spectacular views of Endeavour Inlet. 12km
Your walk will take you past a historic area for antimony mining and through forest full of beautiful bird chorus. Your accommodation for tonight is Punga Cove. Relax and enjoy an afternoon refreshment at the Boatshed Café.
Day 3: This is the day that us locals like to call ‘The Jewel in the Crown’. 23km
Undulating hills along the ridgetop offer panoramic views of the Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru Sounds. This day is challenging but very rewarding. The final section down into Portage Bay is hard on the feet but your cold beer and nice comfy bed are waiting in the spectacular setting in Portage Resort Hotel.
There is the option to water taxi today if you don’t feel upto walking (extra cost).
Day 4: The home straight 21km or R&R.
If you are doing the 5 day option then today is your day to sit back and relax, and enjoy the stunning scenery that is in front of you. If you are feeling fresh and would like to go on a guided sea kayak trip in our quality decked kayaks, then this can be arranged. Please enquire when booking your adventure.
NB – Lunch is not included on your rest day.
For those of you on the 4 day option – this is it, your final day on the Queen Charlotte Track.
Day 4 or 5: The home straight. 21km
The first hill out of Portage is tough but once at the top the views are gorgeous. Once you drop into Te Mahia Saddle you are on your final half day.
The track is a gentle gradient from here and finishes through some beautiful beech forest. On arrival in Anakiwa you will be greeted with a complimentary refreshment to enjoy while you chat about your brilliant trip on the Queen Charlotte Track.
